How do I install Blue 92 Anti-Fracture Membrane or 9235 Waterproofing Membrane (as an anti-fracture membrane)?

9235 Waterproofing Membrane and Blue 92 Anti-Fracture Membrane are a cold-applied, liquid rubber polymers which are used with LATICRETE Waterproofing/Anti-Fracture Fabric. The liquid is applied with a paint roller or paint brush and the fabric is embedded into the liquid until the liquid bleeds through the fabric. A top coat of the membrane liquid is immediately applied over the fabric. LATASIL™ is applied at adjoining surfaces, drains connections and pipe penetrations.

How do I install HYDRO BAN® XP or HYDRO BAN as an anti-fracture membrane?

HYDRO BAN® XP and HYDRO BAN are cold-applied, liquid rubber polymer which is applied with a paint roller, paint brush or airless paint sprayer. No membrane reinforcing fabric is typically required. The first liquid coat must be completely dry to the touch prior to applying the second coat of membrane liquid. HYDRO BAN XP will change from a light green to a darker green when cured, and HYDRO BAN will change from a sage green color to an olive green color when dry. The second liquid coat can then be applied and must also dry to the touch. A LATICRETE Latex-fortified thin-set (e.g. 254 Platinum, 257 TITANIUM™, etc...) may be used to install most types of tile or stone directly to the HYDRO BAN XP or HYDRO BAN. Please refer to the HYDRO BAN XP or HYDRO BAN data sheet and Installation Instructions for more complete information.

How do I install FRACTURE BAN™ 40 and FRACTURE BAN 90?

The FRACTURE BAN™ 40 and FRACTURE BAN 90 are pliable, light weight peel and stick membrane designed for use under thin-bed adhesives for ceramic tile, stone and other hard surface installations. FRACTURE BAN product is available in two (2) configurations; LRACTURE BAN 40 is 40 mil (1mm) thick and FRACTURE BAN 90 is 90 mil (2.3mm) thick. Properly prepared interior substrates to be treated with either FRACTURE BAN configuration must first be primed with FRACTURE BAN Primer. Measure the area and cut the FRACTURE BAN length 6” to 8” (152 to 203mm) longer than needed to allow for a trimmed fit. Lay FRACTURE BAN on surface with release liner side down. Pull release paper off membrane while hand smoothing ridges and air pockets to ensure 100% contact and good bond. Trim excess material as needed at wall, corners or terminations. Apply subsequent rolls in the same manner and ensure that the edges are butted together. Refer to product data sheet for more information, including for exterior applications (exterior applications require use of VAPOR BAN™ Primer ER in lieu of FRACTURE BAN Primer with FRACTURE BAN 40 only).

How do I install FRACTURE BAN™ SC?

FRACTURE BAN™ SC is a thin, load bearing, self-curing liquid rubber polymer that can be easily applied in a single coat to form a flexible seamless anti-fracture membrane. Pre-treat cracks, joints, coves and floor/wall/transitions as stated in product data sheet. For the main application, install FRACTURE BAN SC onto properly prepared interior, horizontal substrates, using a paint brush or roller to apply a liberal coat (30 – 40 mils (0.75 – 1 mm) wet thickness. Use a wet film gauge to ensure proper wet mil thickness is achieved. Refer to product data sheet for more information.

*NOTE: Do not install moisture-sensitive tile or stone with water based setting materials on top of FRACTURE BAN peel & stick membranes. Also, dimensionally weak natural stone tile that normally would not be categorized as moisture sensitive; such as travertine, limestone, marble and agglomerates can exhibit doming, cupping or curing when wet-set using large, heavy tile mortar (e.g. medium bed mortar) methods of installation over impervious sheet membranes such as FRACTURE BAN. For this reason, areas requiring more than 3/8” (10 mm) buildup require the use of an NXT™ self-leveling underlayment or cured 3701 Fortified Mortar application before installation of FRACTURE BAN. When installing natural stone, always do a mock-up area of the proposed installation and allow materials to reach full cure to ensure achieving the desired effect.

Can I install vinyl tile over HYDRO BAN® XP, HYDRO BAN, 9235 Waterproofing Membrane, FRACTURE BAN™ SC, and Blue 92 Anti-Fracture Membrane?

Yes - after the HYDRO BAN® XP. HYDRO BAN, 9235 Waterproofing Membrane, FRACTURE BAN™ SC, and Blue 92 Anti-Fracture Membrane is installed, use a latex based vinyl adhesive to adhere the vinyl tile to the membranes. Ensure that the adhesive contains no solvents. If there is a question as to the compatibility of the vinyl adhesive and the membrane, apply a continuous 1/8" (3mm) thick coating of a LATICRETE liquid latex thin-set mortar to the membrane and allow to harden. Then install the vinyl flooring.
