What are the performance features of SPECTRALOCK® PRO Premium Grout?

SPECTRALOCK® PRO Premium Grout provides a number of important features and benefits for the end user, installer, architect, and designer:

  • Color accuracy – The SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout powder, based on non-pigmented technology provides outstanding accuracy to each color's standard. Since the color is integral with the sand, it is virtually impossible to wash the color out of the grout (a common problem with cement based grout). SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout will be most accurate to the LATICRETE Grout and Sealant Colors Card (DS 254.3).
  • Color uniformity – SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout utilizes a unique cross linking technology which is unaffected by the many jobsite variables (e.g. over-washing, inconsistent mixing, uneven drying conditions, etc...) which can produce shade variations, blotchiness, and shading in portland cement based grouts. SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout delivers a uniform color every time.
  • Stain resistance – SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout has unique stain blocking properties that repel liquids and many staining materials. In addition, the absorption rate of SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout is less than 0.05%, which is comparable to (or better than) impervious porcelain tiles. This means that SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout is the most stain resistant grout available, and is easy to maintain.
  • Superior durability – Properly mixed and inatlled, SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout cures to a hard, dense grout every time. SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout is unaffected by the many jobsite variables that affect the cure of portland cement based grouts. Cement grouts might exhibit powdering, dusting, and flaking because of poor curing conditions on the job. This will not occur with SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout.
  • Microban® Anti-Microbial Protection – SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout contains Microban anti-microbial protection which helps to inhibit the growth of mold and mildew into the grout. Any mold or mildew that may be present on the surface of SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout will not penetrate into the grout and can be topically cleaned with neutral pH soaps and clean water as part of a consistent cleaning regimen. Maintaining a suitable and consistent cleaning regimen will keep the installation looking new for many, many years
  • Non-sag Performance – SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout has been developed to provide non-sag performance on vertical applications and to prevent sagging under tile on horizontal applications.
  • Non-staining system – SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout utilizes a non-staining filler powder that will not stain any tile, such as quarry tile, unglazed ceramics, polished porcelain, many marbles and stone, and other unglazed ceramic tile. Portland cement grouts utilize color pigments which may stain these types of tile, but SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout will not stain, even with black or other dark grout colors. Certain types of stone (e.g. Thasos White marble, White Carrara marble, other statuary marbles, and other absorptive stone) may draw the grout liquids into them causing a "picture framing" effect which will darken or discolor the stone. Coduct a test area to determine suitability and acceptability.
  • Never requires sealing – Due to it’s low porosity rate (< 0.5%), SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout never needs to be sealed in order to help resist staining.
  • Great for narrow joints – As grout joints are specified to be narrow for stone and for rectified tiles, SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout will cure properly and perform extremely well even in tight, narrow joints. SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout can be installed into grout joints from 1/16" to 1/2" (1.5 to 12mm).
  • Great for re-grouting – SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout is suitable for re-grouting applications where existing grout joints are powdering, dusting out, or need to be replaced.

To summarize, SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout is the grout that “Locks in color, and blocks out stains!”

How do I remove cured epoxy grout film from the face of tiles?

Use a neutral pH detergent/water solution (electric dishwasher detergent works very well) along with a sponge and extra SPECTRALOCK® Grout Part C powder. Apply the soap/water solution to the face of the tile in the affected area(s) and then sprinkle the SPECTRALOCK Grout Part C powder onto the wet area. Use the sponge to scrub the surface with some pressure to "abrade" the haze off of the tile. Conduct a test area in an inconspicuous area to verify suitability of this method for your tile or stone and to determine results. If the haze persists, try the above technique but replace the detergent/water solution with one of the chemicals listed below:

Can I re-grout with SPECTRALOCK® PRO Premium Grout or SPECTRALOCK PRO Grout?

Yes.  To regrout with SPECTRALOCK® PRO Premium Grout or SPECTRALOCK PRO Grout carefully remove a minimum of ½ the depth of the existing grout joint, ensuring that he remaining grout is sound and firm. The careful use of dustless grinders with a diamond-cutting blade works well for this purpose. Use caution so tiles are not damaged. If the grout joints are too narrow to accommodate a dustless grinder, it may be necessary to use a hand-held tool (e.g. grout saw, Dremel Tool, Roto-Zip, etc...). Vacuum all of the dust and grout debris from the joints, wash with clean water and allow to dry. Proceed with the grout installation using one of the following grouts:

What is the SPECTRALOCK® DAZZLE™ component?

SPECTRALOCK® DAZZLE™ is an optional component for use with SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout and SPECTRALOCK PRO Grout. SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout and SPECTRALOCK PRO Grout are available in a range of 40 designer colors, but by blending in a SPECTRALOCK DAZZLE component, the color pallette expands to over 170 options! SPECTRALOCK DAZZLE is available in Gold, Silver, Copper, Mother-of-Pearl, Glow-In-The-Dark, and a host of other bright colors. What are important tips about grouting with SPECTRALOCK® PRO Premium Grout and SPECTRALOCK PRO Grout?

  • Remove excess grout off the face of tile with a grout float immediately after installing the grout. Don’t leave large globs of SPECTRALOCK® PRO Premium Grout or SPECTRALOCK PRO Grout on the face of the tile. Remove it prior to cleaning.
  • Mix the provided Cleaning Additive 377 with clean water. If you run out of the Cleaning Additive 377, mix 1/2 cup (237 mL) of white vinegar with 2 gallons (7.6 liters) of clean water instead.
  • The working time of SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout and SPECTRALOCK PRO Grout is approximately 80 minutes at 70°F (21°C); don’t mix more SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout or SPECTRALOCK PRO Grout than you can grout in that time frame.
  • SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout and SPECTRALOCK PRO Grout residue can be easily removed with a sponge and water. After installing the grout, wait 20 to 30 minutes before cleaning (or within one hour of mixing the product). You can wait longer at cooler temperatures. Add “Initial Wash” Cleaning Additive 377 to two gallons (7.6 liters) of clean water and mix until fully dissolved. Submerge clean sponge into water and wring until damp.
  • Change sponge and water with cleaning additive every 50 ft2 (4.6 m2 when using multiple units of SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout or SPECTRALOCK PRO Grout.
  • SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout and SPECTRALOCK PRO Grout utilize a non-pigmented filler powder that should not stain any tile, such as quarry tile, polished porcelain, glass, other unglazed ceramic tile, and many types of stone. Portland cement grouts use fine color pigments that get trapped in the surface pores of many tiles, and can permanently stain them, or at least make cleanup difficult. This will not happen with SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout or SPECTRALOCK PRO, even with black and other dark grout colors. Please read and follow the SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout or SPECTRALOCK Grout Installation Instructions for installation and cleanup.
  • SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout and SPECTRALOCK PRO Grout are non-sag grouts which produce nice, full joints. These grouts will not sag out of wide wall joints or cove base, and will not flow under floor tile. For large area floor applications, machine grouting is easily accomplished, resulting in full, flush joints installed very quickly and efficiently.
  • Like cement grout, SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout and SPECTRALOCK PRO Grout will be tack free in approximately 4 hours at 70°F (21°C). Each is ready for foot traffic in 12 hours and for normal traffic in 24 hours. SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout and SPECTRALOCK PRO Grout do not require extended protection time like most 100% solids epoxy grouts, but refer to the data sheets for SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout (DS 681.0) and the SPECTRALOCK PRO Grout data sheet (DS 685.0) for protection guidelines.
  • If proper cleaning procedures are followed, there should be no film or residue left on the tile that should require additional cleaning steps. SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout and SPECTRALOCK PRO Grout do not leave any shiny streaks or film like many 100% solids epoxy products. Its non-pigmented filler powder technology will not stain tile or many types of stone (even black grout on quarry tile). It does not leave any pigment streaks or film like portland cement grouts, and therefore requires less washing. You will be finished with your grout installation faster with SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout or SPECTRALOCK PRO Grout than with other types of grout.
  • SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout and SPECTRALOCK PRO Grout are water cleanable while fresh.
  • SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout and SPECTRALOCK PRO Grout are suitable for re-grouting applications. Simply remove the existing grout from the joints to a minimum of half the depth of the tile and re-grout with SPECTRALOCK PRO Premium Grout or SPECTRALOCK PRO Grout.
