How to Replace a Shower Drain
Option 1: Replacing a shower drain from our LATICRETE preformed pan options
If replacing a shower drain from our HYDRO BAN® preformed pan options, it would be best practice to remove the entire preformed pan so you could get access to the shower drain trough and connection below if no access is available from above, in order to repair or replace that shower drain before proceeding with the remainder of the shower drain and shower pan replacement/repair. For more information, please refer to our various LATICRETE Shower Drain product information and Shower Drain Installation instructions.
Option 2: Linear drain without a preformed shower pan and/or bonding flange drain
If a linear drain without a preformed shower pan and/or bonding flange drain, you would have to chip out the existing floor and potentially jack hammer around the shower drain to a point where you can get access to the shower drain connection in order to make the replacement shower drain installation work. Once that is done and the shower drain is tied into the existing plumbing you would rebuild your mortar around the shower drain installation and complete your waterproofing and tile installation accordingly. For more information please refer to our Linear Drain product information and installation instructions.
